Family Literacy Movie Night to Spotlight the Power of Reading
Families and community members are invited to attend Family Literacy Movie Night, an evening focused on the importance of reading and the lasting impact of literacy on children, families, and communities.
The event will take place on Thursday, February 12, at 6 p.m. at the 13th Ave Dream Center, 922 24th St. E., Bradenton. Attendees will gather for a screening of Sentenced, a powerful documentary narrated and produced by NBA star Steph Curry.
The film explores the realities of childhood illiteracy through the lived experiences of adults and children who never learned to read, highlighting how literacy can break cycles of generational poverty and open doors to opportunity. Through personal stories and eye-opening perspectives, the documentary underscores why access to reading and education remains a critical issue nationwide.
Family Literacy Movie Night is intended for mature audiences ages 17 and older. Anyone under 17 must have parental permission to attend. Pre-registration is required for the event.
Organizers encourage families, educators, and community members to attend and engage in meaningful conversations about literacy, learning, and how communities can work together to support reading success for all.
