FDOT Launches U.S. 301 PD&E Study to Shape Future Transportation Improvements
The Florida Department of Transportation District Seven has launched a Project Development & Environment (PD&E) study for U.S. 301, examining a 10.1-mile corridor stretching from north of Moccasin Wallow Road to State Road 674, also known as Sun City Center Boulevard.
The study is a critical step in evaluating long-term transportation needs along this heavily traveled route, which serves as a key north–south connection for residents, commuters, and commercial traffic in northern Manatee County and southern Hillsborough County. Through the PD&E process, FDOT will analyze current and future traffic conditions, safety concerns, environmental impacts, and potential roadway improvements.
Community input is a vital part of the study. FDOT is encouraging residents, businesses, and stakeholders who live, work, or travel through the corridor to share their feedback, as public comments will help guide the development and design of potential alternatives.
Those wishing to participate can submit comments online through the FDOT District Seven study website or review detailed project information, maps, and updates related to the U.S. 301 PD&E study. Written comments may also be sent by mail to FDOT District Seven, 11201 N. Malcolm McKinley Drive, M.S. 7-500, Tampa, FL 33612-6456. Questions can be directed to FDOT by phone at 813-975-6000 or toll-free at 800-226-7220.
FDOT officials note that the study is still in the evaluation phase, with no final decisions made. Continued public engagement will play a key role in shaping the future of U.S. 301 and ensuring the corridor meets the region’s growing transportation needs safely and efficiently.
