February Recognized as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
Wear Orange on Tuesday, February 10th
February is recognized nationwide as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a time dedicated to education, prevention, and standing with teens to promote safe, healthy relationships. The awareness campaign focuses on helping young people recognize the warning signs of unhealthy behaviors while encouraging open conversations among families, schools, and communities.
Statistics show that one in three teens in the United States will experience physical, emotional, or sexual abuse from a dating partner before reaching adulthood. These numbers highlight the importance of early education and proactive prevention efforts. By equipping teens with knowledge about respect, boundaries, and communication, communities can help reduce the risk of dating violence and support healthier relationships.
As part of the month’s activities, Tuesday, February 10, is designated as Wear Orange Day. Community members are encouraged to wear orange as a visible sign of support for teen dating violence prevention and to help spark meaningful conversations about awareness and safety.
Throughout February, organizations such as HOPE Family Services are sharing resources, educational messages, and engagement opportunities to support teens and strengthen the community. Residents are encouraged to follow, share, like, and engage with awareness posts to help spread the message and reinforce the importance of healthy relationships for young people.
