Final Suspect Convicted in 2023 Fatal Armed Robbery Case in Bradenton
The final defendant connected to a 2023 fatal armed robbery in Bradenton has been convicted, bringing closure to a case that involved seven suspects and left one man dead.
On March 11, 2026, a Manatee County jury found Tyreak Allen, 23, guilty of first-degree murder, a capital felony that carries a life sentence in the Florida Department of Corrections. Allen was also found guilty of attempted armed robbery with a firearm and received a 20-year sentence to run concurrently with the life sentence.
The charges stem from a violent robbery on January 23, 2023, at a residence in the 100 block of 10th Avenue West. Authorities said Allen and six other suspects—Jerome Williams, Shamar Mobley, Dorian Brooks, Kevion Brooks, Kobe Brooks, and Mekhi Booker—arrived at the home intending to rob James Jackson Jr.
Investigators determined the group demanded that Jackson hand over a gold chain. When he refused, several of the suspects opened fire, striking Jackson and two other men. Officers recovered more than 60 shell casings from the scene.
Jackson later died from his injuries on January 31, 2023.
Bradenton Police Department K9 Officer Smolarz heard the gunfire and observed a vehicle fleeing the area shortly after the shooting. The vehicle crashed near the intersection of 13th Avenue West and 1st Street. K9 Drax, who has since retired, apprehended Allen at the scene.
Two other suspects, Jerome Williams and Shamar Mobley, were later located and arrested with assistance from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit.
As the investigation continued, Detective Andy Perez—now a sergeant—and the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit identified and arrested the remaining suspects connected to the case.
Several of the co-defendants resolved their cases through plea agreements in the years following the shooting.
Earlier this year, Jerome Williams, 23, pleaded no contest to attempted robbery and constructive possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Mekhi Booker, 21, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder with a firearm and attempted robbery and was sentenced to 15 years in prison on each charge, to run concurrently.
In 2025, Dorian Brooks, 27, pleaded no contest to robbery with a weapon and received a 15-year prison sentence. Shamar Mobley, 23, pleaded no contest to attempted robbery with a weapon and was sentenced to five years in prison with credit for time served.
In 2024, Kevion Brooks, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a firearm and attempted robbery with a firearm and was sentenced to 25 years and 15 years in prison, respectively, to run concurrently. Kobe Brooks, 22, pleaded no contest to grand theft and was sentenced to 18 months of probation.
Allen’s conviction marks the final resolution in the case, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies and years of investigation following the deadly robbery.
