Fire Destroys Golf Carts, Damages Building at State College of Florida
A fire involving multiple golf carts spread to a building at the State College of Florida campus on the afternoon of July 4, prompting a second alarm response from area fire departments.
Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue was dispatched to the reported structure fire at 12:39 p.m. at the college’s Facilities Management Office on 34th Street West. When Battalion 2 arrived, firefighters found five golf carts fully engulfed in flames. The fire had already extended from the carts into the adjacent building.
Based on the conditions, Battalion 2 upgraded the incident to a working fire and requested a second alarm, bringing in additional personnel and equipment to assist with firefighting operations.
Responding units included Cedar Hammock Engines 211, 221, 231 and 241, Ladder 219, Southern Manatee Battalion 3 with Engines 311 and 312, and Bradenton Ladder 439. EMS Alpha 1, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Chief 208, and Fire Inspectors 225 and 227 also responded to the scene.
Firefighters deployed two hose lines to attack the blaze and worked to contain the fire, preventing further spread.
No injuries were reported in the initial incident information. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain under investigation.
