Fire Weather Watch Issued for Manatee County Amid Dry, Breezy Conditions
Manatee County and surrounding areas are under a Fire Weather Watch as dry air and gusty winds increase the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires.
According to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay, low relative humidity and breezy northerly winds are creating elevated fire danger throughout West Central and Southwest Florida. Wind gusts are expected to range from 15 to 25 miles per hour, with relative humidity dropping to 25 to 40 percent. These factors, along with rapidly drying vegetation, make it easier for fires to ignite and spread quickly.
A countywide burn ban remains in effect. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could produce sparks or open flames. Even small ignition sources can quickly turn into larger fires under these conditions.
Officials are reminding the public to keep vehicles off dry grass, properly discard cigarettes, and avoid using equipment or tools that could create sparks. Outdoor grills, fire pits, and debris burning should be postponed until conditions improve.
