First Class of Project EDGE Graduates from Manatee Technical College
A new chapter of empowerment and opportunity began as the inaugural class of Project Empower Develop Grow Educate (EDGE) celebrated their graduation from Manatee Technical College on June 26, 2025.
Project EDGE is a post-secondary transitional program tailored for students with intellectual disabilities. Focused on hands-on learning, personal growth, and real-world skills, the non-degree program connects students with technical education, industry certifications, and pathways to employment.
Students in the program train in high-demand fields such as Advanced Manufacturing and Production Technology, Advanced Automotive Service Technology, Baking and Pastry Arts, Professional Culinary Arts & Hospitality, and Electrical Assistance. Each student participates in immersive learning experiences designed to build confidence, foster independence, and prepare them for successful careers.
By integrating students into the technical college community, Project EDGE provides a supportive environment where they can explore interests, build skills, and earn certifications that hold real value in today’s workforce. For many, this program represents more than education—it’s a launchpad into a fulfilling future.
Graduates now leave the program equipped with industry-recognized credentials and a strong foundation for meaningful employment. Among them was Digital Video Technology student Sophia Swim, whose remarks at the graduation ceremony underscored the program’s spirit of perseverance and passion.
Project EDGE will open its next application cycle in Spring 2026. For more information about the program, including eligibility and course options, please visit manateetech.edu/programs/project-edge.
With the success of its inaugural class, Project EDGE is poised to continue making a lasting difference for students across Manatee County, proving that with the right support, every learner can thrive.
