Flag Day Ceremony in Parrish to Celebrate History and Meaning of the American Flag
Community members are invited to celebrate Flag Day this weekend at a special ceremony in Parrish focused on the history, symbolism and evolution of the American flag.
The free event will be held Sunday, June 14, at noon at the Parrish Elks Lodge, 12242 81st Street East.
Organizers say the ceremony will feature a presentation tracing the development of the American flag from its earliest design in 1775 to the current 50-star version. Attendees will learn about the significance of each version of the flag and the historical events that influenced its evolution throughout the nation’s history.
The event is being presented through a partnership between Parrish Elks Lodge 2889, Hillsborough South Elks Lodge and Boy Scout Troop 146. Organizers said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to preserving American traditions and educating younger generations about the importance of the nation’s flag.
Local scouts will take part in the ceremony as part of an effort to pass patriotic traditions on to future generations while encouraging civic engagement and community involvement.
Flag Day is observed each year on June 14, marking the anniversary of the Second Continental Congress adopting the United States flag in 1777. Although it is not a federal holiday, communities across the country commemorate the occasion through educational programs, ceremonies and patriotic celebrations.
Organizers hope the event will provide residents with an opportunity to reflect on the history and values represented by the Stars and Stripes while bringing the community together in celebration.
