Florentino Homers, Marauders Power Past Blue Jays 6-2
Bradenton, Fla. – After an hour-long weather delay, the Bradenton Marauders paired strong pitching with timely hitting to secure a 6-2 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Friday night at LECOM Park.
Before their originally scheduled contest, the two clubs resumed their previously suspended game from July 29. In just ten minutes, the Blue Jays secured a 4-3 win on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Jean Joseph.
After inclement weather delayed the start of the night’s original game, the two began play at 7:30 p.m. The Marauders opened scoring in bottom of the first when they loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter. With two outs, Jhonny Severino roped an RBI single to left to push Bradenton ahead 1-0.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, Bradenton threatened again when Severino and Lege walked ahead of Eddy Rodriguez who blasted a two-run double off the wall in left to extend their lead to 3-0.
After two errors led to two Dunedin runs in the top of the fourth, Bradenton’s lead was cut to 3-2. However, they responded in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single byYordany De Los Santos. Leading 4-2, Edward Florentino blasted a two-run shot to right that capped scoring at 6-2.
Marauders starter Carlos Castillo was stout, tossing five innings while allowing two unearned runs en route to his second win of the year. Right hander Owen Kellington was spectacular, facing the minimum over three shutout innings with five strikeouts.
With the victory, Bradenton moved to 43-50 and 13-14 in the second half. Dunedin moved 46-43-45 and 9-14 in the second half. The two return to LECOM Park tomorrow with first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Marauders Broadcast Network.
