Florida Department of Health in Manatee County Offers Free Mental Health First Aid Training
The Florida Department of Health in Manatee County is providing free Mental Health First Aid training to help residents better recognize the signs of mental health challenges and respond with confidence and care.
The nationally recognized certification program equips participants with practical tools to identify early warning signs of mental health or substance use concerns, initiate supportive conversations, and connect individuals with appropriate resources. The training is offered virtually, with participants required to complete a brief online module prior to attending the live instructor-led session.
Three upcoming virtual courses are scheduled:
Adult Mental Health First Aid — February 25, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Adult Mental Health First Aid — March 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Youth Mental Health First Aid — March 24, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Adult Mental Health First Aid is designed for adults who primarily work with other adults, while Youth Mental Health First Aid is tailored for adults who work with adolescents and young people.
The initiative supports ongoing efforts to strengthen awareness, reduce stigma, and build stronger connections throughout Manatee County. Community members interested in participating can register by emailing Hannah.Sanborn@flhealth.gov and indicating their preferred training date along with the email address they wish to use for their certification account.
Health officials emphasize that fostering a mentally healthy community begins with education, awareness, and meaningful connection.
