Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Runs Through August 31
Florida families can save big this month during the statewide Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, which runs from August 1 through August 31. The initiative allows shoppers to purchase qualifying school-related items without paying state sales tax, making it easier to prepare for the new academic year.
The tax holiday covers a wide range of essentials. Shoppers can buy clothing, footwear, and accessories priced under $100 per item tax-free. School supplies such as notebooks, pens, and folders are also eligible if they are priced under $50. Learning aids and puzzles under $30 per item qualify as well, helping younger students get a head start with educational tools.
In addition, technology items like laptops and other computer accessories are included in the tax break, provided they are priced under $1,500 per item. However, the exemption does not apply to cell phones or gaming consoles.
The sales tax holiday applies to both in-store and online purchases as long as the seller collects Florida sales tax. This makes it easy for families to take advantage of the savings, whether they prefer shopping locally or through online retailers.
The tax holiday is part of Florida’s broader effort to support education and ease financial burdens on families as they prepare students for success in the classroom. With the new school year approaching, August offers an ideal opportunity to stock up on essentials without the added cost of sales tax.
