Florida’s Back-to-School Tax Holiday Begins Today, Offering Month-Long Savings for Families
Florida’s annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday began Monday, July 20, and will continue through Aug. 20, giving families, students and educators an opportunity to save on a wide range of school-related purchases.
During the month-long tax holiday, qualifying clothing, footwear and accessories priced at $100 or less per item are exempt from state sales tax. Eligible school supplies priced at $50 or less, learning aids and jigsaw puzzles costing $30 or less, and personal computers and certain computer-related accessories priced at $1,500 or less for noncommercial home or personal use also qualify for the tax exemption.
The annual program is designed to help reduce back-to-school expenses as families prepare for the new academic year. Retailers across Florida are expected to participate automatically by applying the tax exemption to eligible purchases made during the holiday.
The Florida Department of Revenue encourages shoppers to review the complete list of qualifying items and any exclusions before making purchases.
