Food Bank of Manatee Distributes 3.8 Million Pounds of Food in 2024 as Summer Shortages Loom
The Food Bank of Manatee, a vital division of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, distributed an impressive 3.8 million pounds of food throughout the county in 2024. From emergency baby baskets and fresh produce to nutritious meals for seniors, each pound served helped fight hunger and build resilience throughout the community.
As the summer months arrive, the Food Bank faces its most critical time of year. Inventory levels typically drop during this season, while the need among families and individuals remains high. In response, local organizations, such as the Bradenton Kiwanis Club, are stepping up to help by encouraging donations of non-perishable food items. Collection barrels have been placed in accessible public locations, including the lobby of the Manatee Performing Arts Center, to support this effort.
The 2024 milestone would not have been possible without the dedication of volunteers, donors, and community partners whose generosity continues to feed hope and nourish lives across Manatee County.
Residents who wish to join the cause can text FEEDMANATEE to 243725 or visit mealsonwheelsplus.org to make a donation or host a food drive. Every contribution, large or small, helps keep shelves stocked and families fed.
