Food Security Navigator Pilot Shows Promising Early Results for Manatee and Sarasota Families
A new pilot program aimed at helping families move beyond immediate food insecurity is already showing significant early success.
The Food Security Navigator Pilot Program, a partnership between the Bishop-Parker Foundation and The Women’s Resource Center, combines flexible financial assistance with personalized, one-on-one support designed to help families achieve greater long-term stability rather than simply addressing short-term food needs.
Just two months into the initiative, program leaders report a 94% reduction in food-related stress among participants and a 71% increase in food security. Additionally, 88% of participating households are now able to redirect money that was previously spent on food toward other important financial priorities, including utility bills, housing expenses, savings and other essential needs.
The pilot currently serves 105 families, representing 364 individuals throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties.
The program was created to better understand how individualized guidance and flexible support can help households navigate challenges that contribute to food insecurity. Early data suggest that providing families with both financial resources and personalized assistance can create meaningful improvements in overall stability and well-being.
While organizers emphasize that the results are preliminary, the early outcomes indicate that targeted support strategies may have a substantial impact on reducing food insecurity and helping families build a stronger financial foundation for the future.
