Four members of West Manatee Fire Rescue (WMFR) deployed to Escambia County early Sunday morning, October 11, to assist with emergency response and recovery operations following Hurricane Isaias.
The personnel departed at approximately 2:30 a.m. as part of Structural Task Force 3601, a coordinated emergency response team mobilized to assist communities affected by the storm.
The deployed WMFR personnel include Lt. Andrew Powers, Max Pollock, Jerrod Apple and Casey Fischbach.
Structural task forces provide additional emergency response capabilities to communities experiencing significant damage or increased demands on local emergency services. Depending on conditions and assignments, deployed firefighters may assist with search-and-rescue operations, assessing damaged structures, clearing debris that blocks emergency access, responding to fire and medical emergencies, and helping residents in affected neighborhoods.
Personnel may also support local fire departments by answering emergency calls, conducting safety assessments and assisting with recovery operations. Their specific responsibilities will be determined by incident commanders based on conditions and the needs of the affected communities.
Deployments involving firefighters from outside the impacted region allow local emergency responders to receive additional support while continuing to serve their communities.
The four WMFR personnel join other emergency responders assisting Northwest Florida communities with storm recovery. The length of their deployment and their specific assignments have not been announced.
West Manatee Fire Rescue’s participation reflects the regional cooperation among Florida emergency response agencies during major disasters, when personnel and resources are mobilized to assist communities beyond their normal service areas.
