FPL to Host Touch-A-Truck Hurricane Expo at LECOM Park
Families across Manatee County will have an opportunity to learn about hurricane preparedness while enjoying a day of hands-on activities at Florida Power & Light’s Touch-A-Truck Hurricane Expo in Bradenton.
The free, family-friendly event is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at LECOM Park, located at 1611 Ninth St. W. in Bradenton.
The expo is designed to help residents prepare for hurricane season through interactive exhibits, educational resources and family entertainment. Attendees will be able to explore real emergency and utility vehicles, including FPL equipment used during storm response and power restoration efforts.
Children and adults will have the chance to climb inside emergency vehicles, meet community partners and learn practical storm-preparation strategies. The event will also feature a hurricane simulator, allowing visitors to experience hurricane-force conditions in a controlled environment and better understand the importance of storm readiness.
In addition to preparedness activities, guests can enjoy free food, Kona Ice, games, giveaways and other family-oriented attractions throughout the day.
Organizers have also planned a sensory-friendly hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. During that time, there will be no horns or flashing lights, creating a more comfortable environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities.
The event is part of FPL’s ongoing efforts to educate communities about hurricane safety and encourage residents to develop emergency plans before severe weather threatens the region. With hurricane season underway, organizers hope the expo will provide valuable information while making preparedness engaging and accessible for families of all ages.
