Friday Night Lights Return as Manatee Teams Open High School Football Season
The 2025 high school football season kicked off under the lights Friday night, with Manatee County programs delivering a mix of triumphs and tough lessons as local teams began their campaigns.
Manatee High’s Hurricanes couldn’t capitalize on their home-field advantage, falling 31-0 to national powerhouse St. John Bosco of California. The Braves, ranked No. 2 in their state by MaxPreps, showed why they’re among the nation’s elite. Despite the loss, the Hurricanes — ranked 75th in Florida — will regroup quickly as they prepare for a crosstown rivalry matchup at Southeast on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Bayshore, meanwhile, gave their fans plenty to cheer about in their opener, avenging a lopsided loss from last season with a thrilling 36-30 win over Sarasota. The Bruins will now take to the road for the first time this fall, traveling to Parrish Community on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Parrish Community picked up right where they left off last year, overpowering North Port 48-7 in their home opener. It was the Bulls’ third straight victory over the Bobcats. Parrish will face Bayshore next on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Braden River also impressed in their debut, edging Cypress Creek 24-20 in front of their home crowd. Next week, Braden River hits the road as they visit Sarasota at 7:30 p.m.
Elsewhere, Southeast traveled to Tampa and rolled past Robinson in a 42-0 shutout, while the IMG Academy Ascenders showcased its national pedigree with a 34-13 win over Hoover (Ala.).
Lakewood Ranch capped the night with a dominant 34-12 road win against Lemon Bay. The Mustangs’ balanced attack helped them start strong as they look to build momentum in the early weeks of the season.
With rivalries looming and crowds back in the stands, the stage is set for another exciting year of Friday night football in Manatee County.
