Garbage Truck Fire Quickly Contained During Bradenton Collection Route
A fire discovered inside a garbage collection load during a City of Bradenton solid waste route on Thursday morning was quickly contained with no injuries reported, city officials said.
The incident occurred near 6th Street East and 2nd Avenue East when a City of Bradenton Solid Waste employee identified smoke and fire within the collection load while servicing the area.
According to the city, the driver immediately contacted 911 and safely emptied the load in an open area so firefighters could access and extinguish the fire. Personnel from the City of Bradenton Fire Department responded and brought the fire under control within minutes.
Officials credited the quick actions of the Solid Waste team and the rapid response from firefighters for preventing the situation from escalating. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
City officials are reminding residents to properly dispose of batteries, chemicals, paints and other household hazardous materials, which can create fire hazards during garbage collection and disposal operations. Residents are encouraged not to place these items in household trash containers and to follow local hazardous waste disposal guidelines.
