Guy Harvey Foundation Recognizes Manatee Schools and Educators for Excellence in Marine Science Education
The School District of Manatee County has been honored with the prestigious Education Award for Outstanding Organization by the Guy Harvey Foundation. This recognition highlights the district's commitment to marine science education and conservation, showcased at the annual Love the Blue Gala held in Fort Lauderdale.
During the ceremony, Jessica Harvey presented the district’s representatives with a striking, signed painting of manatees by her father, the legendary artist and conservationist Dr. Guy Harvey. The artwork, symbolizing a shared dedication to ocean conservation, will be displayed at the Professional Support Center in Manatee County, offering a visual celebration of the district’s achievements.
The Love the Blue Gala serves as a fundraising event supporting ocean research, conservation, and educational initiatives. Through these awards, the Guy Harvey Foundation celebrates individuals and organizations advancing marine science education and inspiring environmental stewardship.
The partnership between the Guy Harvey Foundation and the School District of Manatee County began in 2022, introducing specialized marine science programs into several district schools, including Anna Maria Elementary, King Middle, and Manatee High. During the event, Ms. Harvey shared a video showcasing these programs in action, highlighting their impact on students’ education and fostering future pathways in marine science careers.
The collaboration has brought the innovative Guy Harvey curriculum to life within Manatee County schools, offering students unique learning experiences and career insights into marine science and environmental conservation.
