High School Volunteers Sought for School Emergency Reunification Exercise at Braden River Middle
Manatee County Emergency Management and the School District of Manatee County are seeking high school student volunteers to participate in a School Reunification Exercise scheduled for June 23 at Braden River Middle School.
The training exercise will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. at the school, located at 6215 River Club Blvd. The scenario will simulate a tornado touchdown on campus, providing first responders and school personnel with an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures in a realistic setting.
Student volunteers will serve as role players during the exercise, helping emergency crews conduct triage operations, provide simulated care, and carry out reunification procedures designed to reconnect students with their families following a crisis.
The event offers students a chance to observe emergency management operations firsthand while supporting community preparedness efforts. Participation may also qualify for community service hours, depending on individual school requirements.
Students interested in volunteering are encouraged to submit their name and contact information to Manatee County Emergency Management Deputy Chief Joel Richmond at Joel.Richmond@mymanatee.org by June 10. Participation will be confirmed as space allows, with organizers noting that capacity is limited.
The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination among schools, emergency responders and local agencies in preparation for potential disasters and large-scale emergencies.
