Historic Manatee Burying Ground Hosts Volunteer Cleanup Days in October
The public is invited to lend a hand in preserving local history during two upcoming cleanup days at the 1850 Manatee Burying Ground. Volunteers will have the opportunity to help restore and maintain historic headstones while learning proper preservation techniques.
The cleanup events are scheduled for Friday, October 3, and Friday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Participants will work alongside staff and preservation specialists to carefully clean headstones and help ensure that the county’s oldest public cemetery remains a respectful and educational site for generations to come.
The Manatee Burying Ground, established in 1850, is the final resting place of many of the county’s early settlers and pioneers. Preservation of this historic site helps maintain a vital connection to Manatee County’s heritage.
Those interested in joining either cleanup event must register in advance by contacting brianna.wilson@manateeclerk.com to begin the volunteer application process.
