Historic Pavilion at Camp Flying Eagle Removed to Make Way for New Kiwanis Pavilion
Camp Flying Eagle is preparing for a new chapter following the removal of the long-standing Rotary Pavilion, a structure that had served scouts and programs since 1959. The pavilion, which once housed the Eagle’s Nest camp store, the Quartermaster shop, and storage for camp equipment, was taken down after sustaining severe damage during Hurricane Milton.
The storm’s powerful winds tore the metal roof apart and compromised the supports, leaving the building unsafe. Its demolition was carried out as part of a service project led by members of the Order of the Arrow, Osceola Lodge, with support from volunteers and community partners.
The project was made possible through the efforts of Daren W., Kevin S., and Thomas Marine Construction, whose assistance helped clear the way for a new structure. Thanks to significant contributions from the Bradenton and North Manatee Kiwanis clubs, construction of the Kiwanis Pavilion is expected to begin soon.
The new facility will carry forward the pavilion’s legacy as a central hub for scouting activities while ensuring a safe and updated space for future generations.
