HISTORY Donates $5,000 to Valor Commons Following Community World War II Event
A special screening of World War II with Tom Hanks brought the Manatee County community together on June 27 for an evening dedicated to honoring the Greatest Generation and reflecting on the sacrifices of America’s veterans.
The event, held at the Manatee Performing Arts Center, featured a documentary screening followed by a community discussion led by local leaders and veterans. Organizers thanked HISTORY, Spectrum, the Manatee Performing Arts Center, Valor Commons, veterans, community leaders, panelists, and attendees for helping make the evening a meaningful tribute to those who served.
The program highlighted the importance of preserving veterans’ stories and ensuring their experiences continue to be shared with future generations.
As part of the event, HISTORY presented a $5,000 donation to Valor Commons to support its ongoing mission of serving veterans, their families, and the broader community. The contribution is expected to help expand programs and services that benefit local veterans throughout Manatee County.
The discussion panel featured Bradenton Mayor Gene Brown, Palmetto Mayor Dan West, and Manatee County Veterans Services Division Manager Renee Medina, who shared their perspectives on military service, community support, and the lasting legacy of World War II veterans.
Organizers said the event served as both a tribute to those who served and a reminder of the importance of preserving their stories for generations to come.
