Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee is inviting the community to help brighten the holiday season for local homebound seniors and families in need through its annual Holiday Shoebox Drive.
A community collection event will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lakewood Ranch Elks Lodge, 4602 Lena Road in Bradenton.
Residents are encouraged to fill shoeboxes with thoughtful gifts and bring them to the event. The donated boxes will be distributed to individuals and families served by Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee during the holiday season.
For homebound seniors in particular, the holidays can be an isolating time. The shoebox program provides recipients with practical and comforting gifts while reminding them that they are remembered by their community.
Families, businesses, civic organizations, churches, schools and groups of friends are encouraged to participate by filling one or more shoeboxes.
Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee provides nutrition and supportive services to local residents, including home-delivered meals for seniors and other individuals who are unable to prepare meals for themselves.
Information about how to prepare and donate a holiday shoebox is available through Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee’s Holiday Shoebox Drive.
