Holmes Beach Bank Demolition Clears Way for New Gulf Drive Entertainment Development
Demolition of the former Wells Fargo bank building at the corner of Gulf Drive and Marina Drive in Holmes Beach began last week and is continuing this week as crews prepare the site for a new mixed-use development planned for Anna Maria Island.
The longtime bank building is being removed to make way for a project led by local developer Jake Spooner. Plans for the redevelopment include a mix of retail and entertainment attractions designed to draw both residents and visitors to the busy island corridor.
According to project details, the new development is expected to feature retail space, an ice cream shop, fudge and candy sales, miniature golf, an arcade and Mingo’s restaurant.
The property sits at a prominent intersection in Holmes Beach and has remained a recognizable part of the island landscape for years. The demolition marks the beginning of a major transformation for the site as redevelopment activity continues across Anna Maria Island.
Construction timelines for the new development have not yet been announced publicly, but demolition activity is expected to continue as crews clear the property for future building work.
