Holmes Beach Begins Stormwater Upgrades at 56th Street and Holmes Boulevard

Construction to improve stormwater infrastructure is underway at the intersection of 56th Street and Holmes Boulevard in Holmes Beach, with work beginning early Wednesday ahead of the peak of storm season.

The intersection is expected to remain closed for approximately two and a half weeks while crews relocate Manatee County utilities as part of the city’s ongoing stormwater improvement project.

Once the utility work is complete, crews will install new storm sewer infrastructure designed to improve drainage in an area that has experienced repeated flooding during heavy rainfall. The project is intended to strengthen the city’s stormwater system and reduce flooding concerns for nearby neighborhoods.

Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the project.

Motorists, residents, business owners and visitors should expect temporary traffic disruptions and are encouraged to use alternate routes instead of traveling through 56th Street and Holmes Boulevard whenever possible.

City officials encourage the public to monitor the project for updates and review additional information through the city’s website as work progresses.
