Holmes Beach Dog Park Upgrades Continue as Partial Closures Remain in Place
Ongoing improvements at the Holmes Beach dog parks are progressing as sections of both the Big Dog Park and Little Dog Park remain temporarily closed to allow for turf establishment and facility upgrades.
Since mid-January, the west gate of the Big Dog Park and portions of the Little Dog Park have been closed while crews install new sod and landscaping and complete maintenance projects. City officials report that the closures will remain in place while staff monitors the health and growth of newly planted turf and trees. The current target to reopen the affected areas and begin additional turf installation is April 6, though the timeline may shift depending on conditions.
Recent enhancements to the parks include the installation of new sod, cabbage palms, and shady lady trees, along with repairs and replacements to dugout roofs. Painting of the dugout structures is underway, and repairs to dog park hydrants have been completed. Additional upgrades include the relocation of a hose bib to the edge of a newly constructed concrete dog wash pad, installation of privacy fencing along the Public Works storage area, and the addition of a new bench in the Big Dog Park.
Work is continuing over the coming weeks, with dugout painting expected to be completed by March 27. Temporary golf cart parking signage will also be installed near the east entrance to help accommodate visitors during the partial closures. Maintenance efforts such as watering, hand weeding, and ongoing evaluation of the new turf and trees will continue, along with fertilization once root systems are fully established.
City officials encourage residents to remain patient as improvements are completed, noting that the upgrades are designed to enhance the park experience for both pets and their owners. Residents with questions or feedback are encouraged to contact the city’s Public Works maintenance department by email.
