Holmes Beach Police Warn of DocuSign Phishing Scam Targeting Email Users
The Holmes Beach Police Department is alerting the public to a new phishing scheme involving fraudulent emails that appear to be sent through DocuSign.
According to authorities, the scam begins with an email that appears official and includes DocuSign branding. The message typically contains minimal details but urges the recipient to review and sign a document urgently. A prominent yellow button labeled “Review Document” is included to prompt immediate action.
Police say the email is not legitimate and is instead sent by cybercriminals attempting to steal sensitive information. Clicking the button may redirect users to a fake login page where credentials can be captured, lead to a phishing site, or even trigger the installation of malware on the user’s device. Regardless of the method, the goal is to gain access to personal or professional accounts.
Officials emphasize that legitimate document requests are usually expected and often follow prior communication. An unexpected email demanding urgent action should be treated as suspicious.
Residents are encouraged to avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails and to follow workplace or organizational procedures for reporting suspicious messages. Law enforcement also advises taking a moment to carefully evaluate emails, as scammers often rely on urgency to pressure individuals into acting quickly without verifying authenticity.
The Holmes Beach Police Department continues to monitor scam trends and urges the community to remain vigilant to protect personal information and prevent cybercrime.
