Hometown Star Nelly Korda Competes in Founders Cup at Bradenton Country Club
World No. 1 Returns to Familiar Grounds with Strong Opening Round
Bradenton’s own Nelly Korda is back on familiar turf this week as she competes in the LPGA’s Founders Cup at Bradenton Country Club. The World No. 1, who grew up just 15 minutes from the course, started the tournament with a solid 3-under 68, placing her three strokes behind leader Nanna Koerstz Madsen.
Though this is the first time the Founders Cup is being played in Bradenton, Korda is no stranger to success at this venue. Just a year ago, she claimed victory here in the Drive On Championship, a different event that lacked a title sponsor but saw Korda go wire-to-wire for the win.
Korda, now 26, honed her skills at nearby Sara Bay Country Club, another course designed by Donald Ross, before rising to the top of the professional ranks. Despite now living about 45 minutes from Bradenton Country Club, she remains deeply connected to the area.
With a growing collection of trophies—including an Olympic gold medal and two major championship wins—Korda’s success has solidified her status as one of golf’s biggest stars. She opened the 2025 season with a runner-up finish at the LPGA Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Orlando, showcasing the form that has made her a dominant force on tour.
This week, she is fueled by her competitive drive and the support of family and friends. With a large hometown following in the gallery, Korda is looking to build on her strong start and add another title to her ever-expanding collection.
As the tournament continues, all eyes will be on Korda as she aims to deliver another memorable performance in the city where her journey began.
