HOPE Family Services Shines Light on Survivors During Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Wear Purple Day on Thursday, October 16
As October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, HOPE Family Services of Manatee County is calling on the community to stand together in support of survivors by participating in Wear Purple Day on Thursday, October 16. The annual campaign encourages individuals, families, and workplaces to don purple attire and share photos on social media to raise awareness and show solidarity with survivors of domestic violence.
Since its founding in 1979, HOPE Family Services has been a cornerstone of safety and support for individuals and families impacted by domestic violence in Manatee County. The nonprofit organization provides comprehensive services designed to promote empowerment, healing, and long-term stability for survivors. Its mission is to offer a safe haven and the resources necessary for survivors to rebuild their lives free from abuse.
During the July 2024–June 2025 fiscal year, HOPE’s impact reached every corner of the community:
272 survivors were provided emergency safe shelter, totaling 5,997 safe shelter bed nights.
1,654 survivors participated in outreach programs, while 1,926 adults and children were served overall—97% of whom implemented strategies to keep themselves safe.
226 survivors received assistance through the Injunction for Protection Project.
495 individuals received financial assistance, and 253 requests for financial help were fulfilled.
Survivors and their children benefited from 10,787 hours of service, and 14,465 meals were provided.
HOPE’s 24-hour HelpLine and live chat received 2,832 calls, underscoring the ongoing demand for crisis support.
Recognizing that pets are often part of the family, HOPE also provided 281 animal bed nights and sheltered 16 pets alongside survivors.
Each of these numbers represents a story of courage and a step toward healing, thanks to the organization’s dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners.
HOPE Family Services continues to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Anyone in need of help or wishing to support their mission can call the Crisis HelpLine at (941) 755-6805 or visit www.HOPEFamilyService.org.
This October, HOPE invites everyone in Manatee County to wear purple, share their photos, and help spread the message that hope and help are always available. Together, the community can turn social media—and the county—purple in support of survivors. 💜
