Horwitz Reaches Base Three Times, Marauders Fall Short of Comeback
King Jr. hits go-ahead homer, Jebb drives in two runs with two hits
Spencer Horwitz went 1-for-1 with a single and two walks during his first rehab game with the Bradenton Marauders (10-14, 41-48) despite a 10-9 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays (12-12, 42-47) on Tuesday from LECOM Park. Eddie King Jr. mashed a go-ahead two-run homer, while Mitch Jebb drove in two runs with two hits.
In the bottom of the first, Jebb singled, while Horwitz and King Jr. worked back-to-back walks to load the bases. A single from Brent Iredale scored Jebb and Horwitz to make it a 2-0 ballgame. Dunedin put together a run in the second and two in the third to make it 3-2.
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Horwitz singled and plated on a two-run shot by King Jr., putting the Marauders up 4-3. The Blue Jays offense exploded again for a run in the sixth and four in the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, King Jr. singled and came around to score on a double by Richard Ramirez to make it an 8-5 ballgame.
Bralyn Brazoban and Fredderick Ovalle singled in the eighth and moved to second and third on a groundout to put runners on second and third. Jebb secured a base knock, scoring Brazoban and Ovalle to make it 8-7.
After Dunedin put up two runs in the top of the ninth, Bradenton answered in the bottom half of the inning. King Jr. singled and Ramirez reached on a throwing error to put runners on second and first. After moving up on a groundout, King Jr. and Ramirez scored on a base hit from Brazoban to make it 10-9. Antonio Pimentel and Ovalle reached to load the bases, but Johan De Los Santos lined into a double play to finalize a 10-9 win for the Blue Jays.
Bradenton and Dunedin play game two of a six-game series on Tuesday with first pitch set for 11:00 a.m.
