Hundreds of Drivers Ticketed in Bradenton School Zones During First Week of Classes
Just one week into the new school year, Bradenton’s new school zone cameras have recorded 336 drivers speeding through school areas, a figure police say highlights the urgent need for safer driving near campuses.
The cameras, which are installed at every school in Bradenton, automatically activate when vehicles exceed the posted school zone speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour. Each violation carries a $100 fine, mailed directly to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Police officials emphasize that the program is designed to prioritize safety for students, staff, and crossing guards rather than generate revenue. The goal is to eliminate speeding in school zones, ensuring safer neighborhoods and reducing the risk of accidents.
The enforcement initiative will remain in place throughout the school year, with Bradenton Police continuing to monitor and release data on violations to measure the program’s long-term effectiveness.
