Hurricane Helene Forces Skyway Bridge Closure and School Shutdowns in Manatee County

As Hurricane Helene continues its approach, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge has been officially closed due to wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Additionally, Manatee County authorities are reporting localized flooding in several areas, with roads in Bradenton, including Riverview Boulevard, already seeing significant water accumulation. In response to the storm, all Manatee County public schools, including Manatee Technical College, will remain closed on Friday, September 27th. Many schools are currently serving as shelters for those displaced by the storm, and officials have announced that athletic events and extracurricular activities are canceled until further notice. Some events may be rescheduled for Saturday, September 28th, depending on weather conditions.
