IKEA to Open New Small-Format Store at UTC
A new IKEA location is planned for the University Town Center area, marking another step in the company’s ongoing expansion across the United States.
The upcoming store at UTC will follow IKEA’s newer small-format concept, designed to bring the brand closer to customers in high-traffic retail corridors. Unlike traditional warehouse-style locations, the store will focus on planning and design services for spaces such as kitchens, bedrooms and living areas, with options for home delivery or pickup.
The addition reflects IKEA’s broader strategy to increase accessibility and convenience for shoppers by expanding beyond its large, destination-style stores. The company has been investing in a mix of formats, including smaller planning studios and order points, aimed at urban and suburban markets.
The UTC store is expected to complement the region’s continued growth as a retail and residential hub, where ongoing development has attracted a mix of national brands, housing, and entertainment options. The addition of IKEA is anticipated to further strengthen the area’s appeal as a shopping destination.
Nationwide, IKEA has announced plans to open multiple new locations as part of its U.S. growth strategy, building on recent expansions and efforts to reach more customers through both physical stores and digital services.
Details regarding an exact opening date for the UTC location have not yet been finalized, but the project signals continued investment in the Sarasota-Manatee region’s retail landscape.
