In Recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Manatee Memorial Introduces the ION Robotic System to Help Save Lives Through Early Lung Cancer Diagnosis
As we observe National Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Manatee Memorial Hospital (MMH) is proud to announce the arrival of the Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy System by Intuitive, a next-generation bronchoscopy platform that transforms how physicians diagnose and manage lung disease. This technology marks a major advancement in the hospital’s Comprehensive Lung Program, offering patients in Manatee County, and beyond, access to precision diagnostics and the latest innovations in healthcare delivery.
The Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy System enables physicians to perform minimally invasive, highly accurate navigation and biopsy of lung nodules. Its advanced design provides exceptional reach, stability and control, allowing doctors to access even the smallest, most difficult-to-reach areas of the lung. The system supports earlier detection and diagnosis of lung cancer with reduced discomfort, fewer complications and faster recovery for patients.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. According to the American Lung Association, only 28.1% of cases are diagnosed at an early stage—when the five-year survival rate can reach up to 65%. American Lung Association
By enhancing the precision and efficiency of lung nodule biopsy and diagnosis, enhanced efforts can be made to reduce lung cancer mortality through earlier detection and timely intervention.
“Bringing the Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy System to Manatee Memorial represents a significant step forward for our community,” said Andy Guz, Chief Executive Officer of Manatee Memorial Hospital. “This technology reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in the latest advancements so that patients in Manatee County, and surrounding areas, don’t have to travel outside our region for exceptional care.”
