Josh Cramer Nominated as Next Bradenton Police Chief, Council Vote Set for May 28
Bradenton City Council member and retired assistant police chief Josh Cramer has been nominated to become the next Chief of Police for the Bradenton Police Department. His appointment, announced by Mayor Gene Brown, is pending approval by the City Council, which is scheduled to vote on the matter during its meeting on May 28.
Cramer would succeed Chief Melanie Bevan, who announced her retirement in January after serving as the city’s top law enforcement official since 2016. Bevan will remain in her position until her successor is formally sworn in.
Cramer brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience in Bradenton, having risen through the department’s ranks to serve as assistant chief for six years before his retirement. According to Mayor Brown’s announcement, Cramer’s leadership background and deep connection to the community position him as an ideal candidate to guide the department forward.
If approved, Cramer’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Monday, July 8, at 9 a.m. at the Historic Courthouse located at 1111 6th Ave. West in Bradenton. The event is open to the public.
The appointment comes as the Bradenton Police Department prepares for a significant transition, including the anticipated move to a new headquarters in the fall.
