Keen Brothers Named 2024 Manatee County Agriculturists of the Year
At Tuesday's annual Kiwanis Farm City Week luncheon, brothers Vick Keen, III and James "Jimmy" Keen were recognized as the 2024 Manatee County Agriculturists of the Year. This honor highlights their outstanding contributions to the agricultural community and their dedication to preserving farming traditions in the region.
The Keen brothers are part of a nine-generation agricultural family with deep roots in Manatee County. Together, they own and operate Gulf Coast Ag, LLC, a thriving hay business based in Parrish, Florida. With over 30 years of combined experience in the agriculture industry, Vick and Jimmy specialize in producing high-quality, weed-free, fertilized hay for livestock. Their offerings include Cali Bermuda, Tifton 44, and Jiggs hay, available in both large round bales and square bales. The hay is grown on their properties in Parrish and Myakka City, ensuring consistent quality and supply.
In addition to running their successful hay business, the brothers are deeply involved in the local agricultural community. Vick Keen serves on the board of the Manatee County Farm Bureau, where he advocates for the interests of local farmers and supports agricultural education and innovation. Their collective efforts have helped advance sustainable farming practices and maintain Manatee County's rich farming heritage.
The recognition of Vick and Jimmy Keen as Agriculturists of the Year is a testament to their hard work, leadership, and commitment to agriculture. Their contributions not only strengthen the local farming industry but also honor the legacy of generations of Keen family farmers in Manatee County.
