King Jr. Tags Fifth Homer, Marauders Finish Week Strong with 8-3 Win
Rynders drives in three runs on two hits, Pimentel blasts his second homer
Eddie King Jr. clobbered his fifth homer of the season during an 8-3 win for the Bradenton Marauders (25-25) over the St. Lucie Mets (24-27) on Sunday from LECOM Park. Eddie Rynders drove in three runs, while Antonio Pimentel blasted a solo homer.
In the bottom of the second, Fredderick Ovalle and Canon Reeder worked back-to-back walks to put runners on second and first. Ovalle stole third and scored on a throwing error to make it 1-0. Reeder plated on a double by Rynders and the Marauders went up 2-0.
Bradenton increased the lead in the bottom of the third off St. Lucie starter Jonathan Jimenez. Edgleen Perez walked and King Jr. homered to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
After the Mets plated a run in the top of the fourth, the Marauders responded in the bottom half of the inning. Pimentel led off with a solo homer to make it 5-1. Tate reached first on a dropped third strike and stole second to put a runner in scoring position. Perez singled, plating Tate to make it a 6-1 ballgame.
St. Lucie scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but Bradenton notched two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Rynders collected a two-RBI single to put the Marauders up 8-3.
Greiber Mendez closed it down in the top of the ninth to finalize a 8-3-win Bradenton.
Adolfo Oviedo (3-0) earned the win, letting up a hit with a strikeout over 2.0 scoreless frames. Jimenez (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits, three walks, and three strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
The Marauders take the day off on Monday before beginning a six-game series on the road against the Jupiter Hammerheads. First pitch from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.
