King Middle School Student’s Painting Chosen for Statewide Art in the Capitol Display
A student artist from Martha B. King Middle School has earned top honors in this year’s Art in the Capitol competition. Makayla M., a young creator studying under art teacher Robert Truby, was selected for her acrylic painting titled “The Starry Croak,” which will now hang in the Florida Capitol building.
Florida State Senator Jim Boyd joined School Board Chair Chad Choate, Vice Chair Cindy Spray, Superintendent Laurie Breslin, and members of the district’s leadership team for a special visit to Makayla’s art class, where they surprised her with the announcement. Her mother and sister were present for the moment, along with Principal Mike Mullen and staff members from King Middle, all of whom were celebrating her achievement.
Makayla’s artwork will represent Manatee County Schools in the statewide exhibition, highlighting the creativity and talent of local students. Her selection marks a moment of pride for the school community and serves as recognition of her artistic skill and dedication.
