Higher-than-normal tides are expected to affect coastal areas of Manatee County from overnight Monday, November 9, through Thursday, November 12, potentially causing temporary flooding in low-lying communities.
The upcoming king tides could bring elevated water levels to several areas, including Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key, the Bradenton and Palmetto riverfronts, Cortez Village, Palmetto Point, Rubonia, and Terra Ceia Island.
King tides occur when gravitational forces from the moon and sun combine to produce unusually high tides. These events can cause water to rise above normal levels, particularly in coastal neighborhoods, along waterfront roads, and in areas with poor drainage.
Manatee County officials are urging residents and motorists to remain cautious, monitor changing water conditions, and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Drivers should also avoid parking vehicles in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
Residents and visitors near the waterfront are encouraged to stay alert throughout the four-day period, as water levels may fluctuate with each tidal cycle.
King tide flooding can occur even without rainfall, making awareness and preparation important for those living in or traveling through vulnerable coastal communities.
