Law Enforcement Warns Customers of Potential Email Scam
Brown & Sons Funeral Home Targeted by Email Scam
*Earlier today, Brown & Sons Funeral Home became the target of a suspected Business Email Compromise (BEC) scam. Customers reported receiving emails that appeared to be from the business, with attached invoices. While the emails were designed to look legitimate, they were part of a malicious attempt to trick recipients into downloading harmful software or disclosing sensitive information.
Fortunately, most recipients recognized the suspicious nature of the emails and contacted Brown & Sons directly without opening the attachments. The business is working diligently to address the issue and ensure the security of its email systems.
BEC scams are a growing threat to businesses and their customers. Cybercriminals use fake email addresses to mimic legitimate companies. These fraudulent emails often include requests for payment, sensitive data, or instructions to click on malicious links.
To stay safe, individuals are urged to remain vigilant when receiving unsolicited emails. If an email seems suspicious, avoid clicking on any links or downloading attachments. Instead, contact the company directly to verify the authenticity of the message.
Brown & Sons Funeral Home is cooperating with authorities to investigate the incident and prioritizes protecting its customers’ personal information.
