Leadership Manatee Alumni Association Announces Judge Gilbert Smith as 2026 Kent C. Schulz Award Recipient

The Leadership Manatee Alumni Association is proud to announce Judge Gilbert Smith as the 2026 recipient of the Kent C. Schulz Award for Distinguished Leadership, recognizing his extraordinary lifetime of service, leadership, and commitment to the Manatee County community.
Judge Smith’s distinguished legal career reflects decades of integrity, wisdom, and dedication to justice. Beyond the courtroom, his leadership has extended across numerous civic, legal, and community organizations, where he has helped foster thoughtful dialogue, strengthen institutions, and support the continued growth of Manatee County.
A respected historian and author, Judge Smith has made a lasting impact through his work preserving the region’s rich heritage. His most recent publication, Lawyers & Legends of Manatee County – Second Edition: The History of Lawyers and Legends of Manatee County from 1855 to 2024, serves as a comprehensive chronicle of the individuals and moments that have shaped the county’s legal and civic landscape.

Judge Gilbert Smith will be honored at the annual Leadership Manatee Alumni Association Kent C. Schulz Luncheon on Wednesday, May 13 at 12:00 PM at the Manatee Performing Arts Center. The event brings together community leaders, alumni, and supporters to celebrate distinguished leadership and the ongoing impact of Leadership Manatee in our region.
