Local Giving Circle Hits over $300k in Non-Profit Grants
Manatee Women Giving Back, a women’s giving circle in Manatee County, recently exceeded $300,000 in grants to local non-profit organizations since their inception in 2013. The circle’s mission is to improve the lives of people living in the county, with a particular focus on women, children, education, hunger and homelessness.
What is unique about the circle is their hands-on approach to learning about the needs in the community, all in a small group environment. They meet directly with non-profit leaders in person, and many times conduct site visits, to determine how they can best help. Although some non-profits may receive federal or state funding, those funds may only cover a portion of what is needed. “We try to close the gaps on those funding deficits, enabling critical programs to move forward. And by having direct relationships with those delivering the services, we are able to truly see the impact it is having on people’s lives.” says Sharon Linnane, current co-chair of Manatee Women Giving Back.
The giving circle operates very simply. Members provide an annual contribution to the circle fund, which is held at the Manatee Community Foundation. They meet several times a year and decide together where the funds will have the most impact. “I joined the circle in 2016 and have learned so much about what the needs are in Bradenton,” said Kathy Marshall, current co-chair of Manatee Women Giving Back. “The women of the circle are a pleasure to work with and their generous hearts are inspiring! And we see real change through our donations! We truly change lives for the better.”
Are you passionate about giving back to your community and joining with other women who feel the same? The circle is always looking for new members! Please contact Kathy Marshall atmarshallkathy14@hotmail.com or Sharon Linnane at linnanes@hotmail.com for more information.
