Lock It or Lose It: Manatee Deputies Warn of Vehicle Burglaries Across Neighborhoods
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to secure their vehicles after a recent string of vehicle burglaries and thefts across several neighborhoods.
According to deputies, unknown suspects have been moving through residential communities during overnight hours, checking door handles and targeting vehicles that have been left unlocked. Stolen items have included firearms, backpacks, iPads, cash and, in one case, an entire vehicle that was left unlocked with the keys inside.
Surveillance footage from the Carlyle community shows multiple suspects wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts walking from vehicle to vehicle looking for easy targets. Investigators say the crimes appear to be opportunistic, with suspects primarily focusing on vehicles that are left unsecured.
The Sheriff’s Office has increased patrols in affected neighborhoods but is reminding residents that simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim. Deputies recommend locking vehicles, removing firearms and valuables, taking keys inside the home and immediately reporting suspicious activity.
Anyone who recognizes the individuals seen in surveillance footage or has information related to the burglaries is encouraged to contact the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at 941-747-3011.
Law enforcement officials stress that taking a few moments to secure vehicles each night can help prevent thieves from finding easy opportunities and protect personal property from theft.
