Man Dies in Accidental Shooting; Son Charged with Manslaughter in Bradenton
A 76-year-old man is dead, and his son is facing manslaughter charges following an accidental shooting inside a Bradenton home on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a residence in the 12300 block of Baypointe Terrace after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found 35-year-old Ian Douglas administering aid to his father, Andrew Douglas, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the neck.
Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but Andrew Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:20 p.m.
Investigators say Ian Douglas told deputies he had been showing his father a handgun when it discharged unintentionally. Following an initial investigation, detectives charged Ian Douglas with manslaughter by culpable negligence. He was booked into the Manatee County Jail.
The case remains under active investigation by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
