Man Sentenced to 60 Years for 2022 Fatal Stabbing in Bradenton
A man received a 60-year prison sentence on Friday for the 2022 stabbing death of his girlfriend, as confirmed by the State Attorney’s Office. The conviction followed a guilty plea to second-degree murder.
The incident occurred at the America’s Best Value Inn on SR-64 East in Bradenton, where the couple had been residing. According to an investigation by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, an argument escalated, leading Steven Joseph Cozens to fatally stab his girlfriend multiple times with a knife.
The victim’s body was later found hidden under a bed by hotel staff, who contacted law enforcement. Authorities apprehended Cozens nearby, linking him to the crime through his confession and evidence gathered at the scene.
