Manatee Commissioners Fund Recreational Initiatives
The Manatee Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has voted to continue to fund recreational initiatives in the county, ensuring community gathering places and a legacy of fitness and fun for generations to come.
Commissioners unanimously approved a $1.9 million project slated for Braden River Park Baseball Field #6 (located at 5201 51st St E. in Bradenton), including installation of synthetic turf, drainage, irrigation, and other amenities to facilitate a functional baseball facility.
They also approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $2,892,901.36 for the first phase of enhancements for Washington Park—including the playground, pavilions, parking lot, sidewalks, bike racks, and landscaping.
“Thank you very much,” said Manatee County District 2 Commissioner Amanda Ballard. “This community has been begging for a park for about 25 years.”
Staff is committed to making sure the legacy of recreation continues throughout Manatee County, including projects which are aligned with those of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). In fact, they will be a part of the Palmetto Trails Network Project Development and Environment Study Southern Section Public Workshop tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Manatee Fairgrounds Veterans’ Expo Hall, located at 1303 17th Street West, (Palmetto).
“We’ll be there as well to answer questions about the Washington Park Community Center as well as the other trails efforts,” said Deputy County Administrator Bryan Parnell.
