Manatee County, Bradenton Beach Move Forward on Library Repair Funding
The future of the Tingley Memorial Library took a positive step forward Tuesday after the Manatee County Commission unanimously voted to work with the City of Bradenton Beach on a plan to help fund repairs to the historic city-owned library.
The vote came during the county commission meeting on May 5 and reflects support from county leaders to preserve the longtime community resource.
City officials originally estimated the needed repairs would cost close to $300,000, but updated estimates now place the project at approximately $250,000. Officials said making the building structurally sound before hurricane season could help avoid more significant damage and future repair costs.
County commissioners discussed the importance of the library to residents on Anna Maria Island and throughout Manatee County while considering options for financial support and future operations.
Discussions between county and city leaders are expected to continue regarding funding sources and long-term ownership of the library. Officials with the City of Bradenton Beach said they hope to maintain ownership of the Tingley Memorial Library by incorporating it into the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency for future operation and maintenance.
