Manatee County officials joined Sheriff Rick Wells and members of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Thursday to celebrate the opening of a new 5,000-square-foot Special Enforcement Division substation in Lakewood Ranch, marking another investment in public safety and the resources needed to serve the community.
The new facility will serve as the primary home for the Sheriff’s Office Selective Enforcement Division (SED), providing dedicated workspace for specialized law enforcement personnel and strengthening the department’s presence in eastern Manatee County.
“As our community continues to grow, we need to make sure our deputies and specialized teams have the space and resources to do their jobs effectively,” said Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells. “This facility gives our teams a place to work together, coordinate operations and better serve the people of Manatee County. It’s an increased presence we’ve needed in east Manatee County, and it puts us in a better position to meet the demands of our community.”
“A strong partnership between the County and the Sheriff’s Office is essential to keeping our community safe,” said Manatee County Commission Chairman and District 3 Commissioner Tal Siddique. “This facility reflects our commitment to planning ahead, making responsible investments in public safety infrastructure and ensuring law enforcement has a lasting presence in eastern Manatee County.”
The substation will accommodate several specialized MCSO units, including SWAT, Traffic and K-9, along with command staff, school crossing guard supervisors and the Telephone Reporting Unit.
Designed to support daily law enforcement operations, the facility includes individual offices, a conference room, a squad room, property and evidence storage, and additional support spaces.
Located near several major County destinations, including Lakewood Ranch Library, Premier Sports Campus and the new Athletic and Aquatic Center, the facility places law enforcement resources closer to residents, businesses and recreational destinations in one of Manatee County’s fastest-growing communities.
The project reflects the ongoing partnership between Manatee County Government and the Sheriff’s Office to ensure public safety infrastructure keeps pace with community needs.
Representatives from Fawley Bryant, the project’s design firm, and Willis Smith Construction, the project’s contractor, joined County officials and Sheriff’s Office leadership for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“While a building alone doesn’t make a community safer, the people working inside it certainly will,” added Siddique. “We’re proud to support the dedicated professionals who serve and protect Manatee County every day.”
