Manatee County Commission to Review Road Projects, Housing Bonds, Legislative Priorities, and Proclamations at October 21 Meeting
The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners will convene for its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 21, at 9 a.m. in the County Administration Building. The agenda includes a range of items covering infrastructure, housing, public safety, community services, and legislative priorities for 2026.
The meeting will open with an invocation by Pastor Mark Gibbens of Mill Creek Baptist Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by U.S. Marine Corps veteran Steven Bell. Commissioners are scheduled to issue several proclamations recognizing National Friends of Libraries Week, Community Planning Month, and the 25th anniversary of Manatee County Search and Rescue.
Among the consent agenda items, commissioners will consider multiple resolutions and budget amendments involving county operations, utilities, transportation projects, and property acquisitions. Notable items include:
Housing and Finance Initiatives: Two resolutions from the Housing Finance Authority will be presented — one reappointing a board member and another authorizing up to $75 million in single-family mortgage revenue bonds to support local homeownership opportunities.
Public Works and Infrastructure: The board will review funding and project updates related to Moccasin Wallow Road, Cortez Road Bridge, and water and wastewater system improvements. A supplemental state grant agreement is proposed for Moccasin Wallow Road Segment 2, along with authorization to install speed humps on Linden Lane and to restrict parking along a section of Prospect Road.
Environmental and Storm Recovery: Commissioners will consider a work assignment related to FEMA-funded storm damage repairs at Coquina Beach following Hurricane Idalia.
Property Acquisitions: Acceptance of warranty deeds from Mixon Fruit Farms and related parcels will be reviewed as part of county land transactions and future redevelopment efforts.
Public Safety: Updates include revisions to the county’s standard business associate agreement for health information and approval of a $150 penalty for countywide noncriminal parking violations.
The board will also hear an update from the Community and Veterans Services Department on the nonprofit investment process and discuss filling a vacancy on the Government Efficiency Liaison Committee.
Under new business, commissioners are expected to approve the 2026 Legislative Priorities Document, which outlines the county’s goals for the upcoming state legislative session, and authorize the hiring of five grant-funded positions dedicated to managing federal Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Relief programs.
In closing items, the board will discuss a proposal to name a county road in honor of Private First Class Christopher Cobb, U.S. Marine Corps.
The meeting will include opportunities for public comment on both the consent agenda and future agenda considerations. The full agenda and supporting documents are available on the Manatee County Government website at www.mymanatee.org.
